The Bramhall Furniture Process

How it Works

Commissioning a bespoke piece of furniture is a labour of love, a collaboration between client and maker that can become an heirloom possession. At Bramhall Furniture this isn’t intimidating, we make the process simple and it’s more affordable than you might think.  We provide a Simple 5 Step Process to make sure your bespoke handcrafted furniture fits your home perfectly.

Step 1

The Consultation

When we receive an enquiry, a consultation is planned, James will visit your home and discuss the vision/ project. James will measure up the dimensions where you would like your furniture and discuss in further detail about all the practicalities. Windows, sloping ceiling/ floors, light switches and access….. all have to to be taken into account when making your project a reality.

Step 2

The Designs

From the visit and consultation we will carefully plan your furniture design focussing on the attention to detail required to create your handcrafted bespoke furniture. We will email through a plan of the wardrobe, alcove unit, bookcase ….. plus the price of the bespoke piece. This is the stage where we can adapt specific design features to make sure you get exactly what you need to fit your home perfectly. We offer payment in installments which can be spread out over time if it helps.

Step 3

The Construction Process

We make bespoke furniture, mainly wardrobes, alcove units, book cases and tv units. We also get commissioned to do free-standing pieces.
The products are all built from scratch, we get in the raw materials and work them into a wardrobe or whatever is requested.

This involves creating a scale drawing, which is shared with the customer for their approval. Once that has been accepted, a cutting list is made, which outlines the size of each piece for the build, a typical wardrobe can have at least 30 individual parts which need to be cut and assembled. Each drawer is another 8 individual pieces. This doesn’t include handles and hanging rails. Which can be another 7 – 10 components. Our handcrafted pieces are all made with care and attention to detail.

Step 4

The Painting

Once the project has been constructed, it is marked up and broken down again for spray painting. We do two coats of base paint/primer and then another 1-2 coats of top coats. The customer can chose any colour they like.  All the paint we use is water based, as it can be washed off hands which is better for the  health of the staff. It also cuts down on the use of unnecessary oil based products, another conscious climate decision.

Step 5

The Fitting

When everything is painted and finished, is it ready for fitting. The tools and furniture are packed in the morning and we proceed to your home. The van is unloaded and usually a two person team will fit. Sheets are put down and we try out best to cover furniture in the room. The fitting will usually take 2 -3 days depending upon the size of the job and how much tea is provided. Once it is fitted, we clear up, make sure everything is left clean and tidy. All you have to do is enjoy your beautiful handcrafted bespoke furniture!
